America's taxicab service industry has collapsed. The expectation of service has descended to zero. The American taxicab industry is a monopoly by jurisdiction. It is anti-free market because of closed entry. Because of closed entry the certificates of public conveyance and necessity (pcans) become property rights in violation of the constitution. The certificate holder wants the least qualified operator to drive the cab so that he can confiscate 90% of their earnings… thus incompetence, thus no service, thus no real income to the driver and no taxes paid. Closed entry is a criminal scam.

This is a criminal scam that robs the poor and able of opportunity and income. It deprives the nation of service that they should expect and of three (3) million owner/operator small business opportunities.

The London Model of High Standards shows that we have no taxicabs in America . Maybe just motorized rickshaws and we would point out that rickshaws for hire are outlawed in Hong Kong . The London Model stands on the foundation of open entry, high knowledge standards, and infrastructure financing; that is anyone who meets the high knowledge standards can enter the business and that business will have financing readily available for their small owner/operator taxicab business.

In the American taxicab industry there is often no other evidence than antidotal. There is a story I have heard about a livery driver named McCarthy who came from County Mayo in Ireland to America in the middle 19th century. He drove livery or a horse-drawn taxicab until he died in 1900. He had at that time $15,000 in the bank; that would be $500,000 today. In one century costs have risen and return to the driver has plummeted.

We demand:

  1. The London knowledge standards for all drivers.
  2. New taxicab package for all cars with a four (4) to ten (10) year vintage with infrastructure financing.
  3. State of the art wireless Communication Operations Center for all cabs.
  4. De-regulate certificates of public conveyance and necessity throughout the United States of America.
  5. End of all tax-exempt status for all monopolies.

We are a vehicle of empowerment. We are constituent activism and leadership.
